Off the beaten track:

Gössenheim is a tiny village not too far from
Würzburg which has nestled in the shadow of the Homburg for over 1200 years.

The Homburg is Germany’s second largest castle ruin (only Heidelberg’s castle is larger) but so far has escaped the tourist hordes (and is an insider’s tip). It is located in a beautiful nature reserve with marvelous walk ways, and hasn’t been commercialized yet - there is no entrance fee, and you can wander around for as long as you like.
